John Cena dead in a car accident is a celebrity death hoax. There is no truth to a Facebook that originated in 2016 but is gaining traction again that the WWE superstar was killed following the tragic events of a car accident. Where did this celebrity death hoax originate?
The fake news story was published by the entertainment web site TMZNewsOnline.net in which it claimed that Cena had passed away in a car accident was circulated online in July 2016:
John Cena died in a single vehicle crash on Route 80 between Morristown and Roswell. He was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics responding to the vehicle accident and was identified by photo ID found on his body. Alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a factor in this accident.
Highway Safety Investigators have told reporters that John Cena lost control while driving a friend’s vehicle on Interstate 80 and rolled the vehicle several times killing him instantly.
However, there is no truth to the above story.

Rather, the story is a piece of fiction that has been circulating online since at least 2013. TMZNewsOnline.net, which is not affiliated with the gossip web site TMZ republished this old hoax in July 2016, starting a new round of rumors concerning Cena’s alleged death.
Rest assured, that Cena is very much alive. In fact, he has been active on social media:
If you wait to act until “everything is perfect”, you will be a lifelong spectator. #NeverGiveUp

Cena is a 16-time World Champion, five-time U.S. Champion and record-setting Make-A-Wish granter. He has released a hit album, starred in blockbuster movies, and more than a decade into his WWE tenure, he has not slowed down a step. Cena will next face Shinsuke Nakamura on Smackdown.
