One of the most common questions I get from prospective coaching clients is whether or not online marketing has become an oversaturated niche. Mind you, most of them are not in the online marketing niche. Instead, they need to learn online marketing to promote their businesses.
The unscientific answer (at least in my opinion) is yes and no. Does it seem like online marketing is an oversaturated niche? Yes. To those of us who’ve been in this game before it was popular, we definitely see a lot of people trying to get in on it because they found out there’s money to be made.
However, that doesn’t mean that if you’re interested in the online marketing niche that there’s no room for you. First, there’s always going to be money in teaching people how to make money. Second, there are several little niches within one big niche.
So if you also happen to also be in a niche that seems oversaturated, here are some of the ways you can stand out.
Carve out your own mini-niche.
I was recently a part of a group coaching program where there were a few online marketers and sales coaches. At first glance, it would appear that since half the group was in online marketing then it was an oversaturated niche. However, that was not the case.
If you took a closer look at each of our businesses, we each had carved out our own mini niche. For example, I focus on stories in online marketing. My mentor focuses on Facebook ads. And even still another student was all about the funnels.
So while we are all in the same general niche, we all offered different services and different kinds results for our clients.
Step into the spotlight.
One thing I often tell my coaching clients and students is that the only thing that will set them apart from everyone else is themselves. Meaning, it’s their experience, their story and their personality that will help them stand out in an oversaturated niche.
There comes a point where people will want to work with you just because you’re you. The reason is because everyone has a skill, but not everyone has your brain.
Know how to sell.
Knowing how to sell will certainly ensure that you stand out in a seemingly oversaturated market. Reason being you need to actually make money to stay in business. The only way to make that money is via sales.
By sales, I mean in-person, over the phone and online. The latter especially is a golden opportunity to earn money without having to trade so much of your time.
Provide excellent service from start to finish.
The quality of your service will speak volumes in any industry, but it can really set you apart if you’re in an oversaturated niche. If you make the process of working with you as easy and efficient as possible, people will notice.
One way to make things both easy and efficient is to offer a way for clients and customers to pay online. You can also use online project management systems or go the extra mile by sending a gift via snail mail. I’ve personally done all three of these things.
Final Thoughts
While standing out in an oversaturated market may seem overwhelming, the truth is if you stick to some basics you should be fine. If anything, you should be thrilled to see there is money to be made, otherwise, people wouldn’t even get into the niche.
