Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is getting is getting a five film arc in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This news should make all fans of Peter Parker’s alter ego excited. The film is the continuation of Parker’s introduction in Captain America: Civil War and apparently is part of a huge plan for Spider-Man.
Speaking with The Toronto Sun, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige revealed that the sequel to “Spider-Man: Homecoming” will a crucial part in the next phase of the superhero films.
“We are looking at a five-movie storyline — Civil War, Homecoming, Avengers: Infinity War, untitled Avengers, Homecoming 2 — or whatever we end up calling it — as an amazing five-story journey for Peter Parker.
In the way that the events of Civil War directly inform the opening of Homecoming and his state of mind as he goes back to high school, so too will the events of the next two Avengers movies as he continues with high school.
This original 22-movie arc ends with the untitled Avengers in May of 2019 and then two months later it will be Peter and Spider-Man that usher us into the aftermath and how things proceed from there.”
Along with serving as the Phase 4 opening film, it would sound like that it will also be used as Peter’s graduation into adulthood and cementing his addition into the world of The Avengers. Holland himself seemingly confirmed that this will be the case in an interview with Collider, saying:
“I will be on Spider-Man 2 about mid-July next year. I think the most interesting thing about a young man’s life is his journey from being a boy to a man, and imagine seeing that journey while having superpowers. That’s something I know I’m definitely excited to explore. I know Kevin [Feige] and the rest of the team are very excited to explore.”
A young Peter Parker / Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
That said, the end credits for Spider-Man: Homecoming seem to hint at a former Sony idea coming together for future Spider-Man adventures. Sony had plans for a Sinister Six film before The Amazing Spider-Man series tanked and Marvel entered the picture.
Spider-Man: Homecoming also stars Zendaya, Jon Favreau, Donald Glover and Tyne Daly.
Directed by Jon Watts, Spider-Man: Homecoming was written by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley, Jon Watts & Christopher Ford, and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers. The film is produced by Kevin Feige and Amy Pascal, and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Jeremy Latcham, and Stan Lee.
