The upcoming year is set to be perfectly purple thanks to Pantone’s newest Color of the Year. The color company announced Thursday that the 2018 Color of the Year is Ultra Violet, which is described as “inventive and imaginative.”

According to the Pantone Color Institute, the alluring color “suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.” Laurie Pressman, vice president of the Pantone Color Institute, said the deep purple hue “has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”

Previous Colors of the Year include greenery, rose quartz and serenity, marsala, radiant orchid and tangerine tango. Ultra Violet is the first shade of purple since 2014 to have been chosen as Pantone’s Color of the Year, which reflects and inspires future design and style trends.
