Ian McKellen Dead At 78 Of Cardiac Arrest Is A Celebrity Death Hoax

Ian McKellen dead of cardiac arrest is a celebrity death hoax. There is no truth that the actor died from a heart attack. Rather, a celebrity hoax went viral and fooled many on social media.

Where did this celebrity death hoax originate? The Mail Online published the news article claiming that McKellen had passed from a heart attack. You can read bits from the hoax below.

A spokesperson for Ian McKellen on Tuesday says the English actor has died. He was 78.

In a statement, publicist Rose Ward says McKellen died of cardiac arrest. He had been fighting pneumonia, which caused him to be hospitalised some months ago and was responding to treatment.”

His publicist said cause of his death is probable an acute coronary event, due to natural causes. He had pre-existing medical conditions, Ward said.

However, there is no truth to the report as McKellen is very much alive. Nonetheless, many on social media quickly shared the hoax that McKellen had died. McKellen as recently as Oct. 28 tweeted out the following: “Ready for cooler weather? Photo by Nobby Clark”.

McKellen is currently in a performance of King Lear at the Minerva Theatre in Chichester. Millie from the Minerva Theatre in Chichester told Gay Star News: ‘Ian is very much alive and kicking.”

She confirmed he will be performing as planned in tonight’s show.

Here are some examples of people sharing the celebrity death hoax of McKellen on social media.

McKellen has been scoring rave reviews for his theatrical performance. Lear crumbles gradually, as if he were a Dover cliff being eroded. Loss of faith and gain of humanity: it is a beautifully clear line, but not over insistent. At the beginning, a king in regalia and courtiers raising their arms robotically at any mention of the gods; at the end, a man in a shift with no heavenly overseers.

McKellen became an acclaimed thespian of the British stage with his performances in such works as Edward II. He also became a popular film actor, earning an Oscar nomination for his role in Gods and Monsters. The venerable actor has since cemented his iconic status by starring as Magneto in the X-Men films and Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings franchise.

McKellen is a prominent gay rights activist. He announced that he was a gay man for the first time on BBC Radio in 1988, although he had come out in his personal and professional lives decades earlier. McKellen co-founded Stonewall, a LGBT rights lobbying group in the United Kingdom named after the 1969 Stonewall riots. He has stated that some of his friends refer to him by the nickname “Serena.”
